Appeal For Urgent Government Intervention In The Ongoing UTAG Strike

AN APPEAL FOR URGENT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IN THE ONGOING UTAG STRIKE FOR UNIVERSITIES TO RETURN TO CAMPUS.
We bring you hearty regards from the Association of Concerned University Students of Ghana (ACUSG).

We are by this communique expressing our support for all Ghanaian students in the various tertiary institutions who have been affected by the ongoing strike of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
We are by this formal communication appealing to the government and all stakeholders involved in the welfare of University Staff to expedite processes and arrangements aimed at meeting the demands of UTAG to enable them to return to campus for the successful completion of the academic calendar.
The recent insurgence has left we the populace confused and unable to make plans for the future.

At present, final year students are at a crossroad regarding their stay on campus.

It is not clear whether they should make decisions towards National Service or make extension on campus rent arrangements.

Majority of our final year students face a possible eviction from their hostels if nothing is done in the coming weeks to restore hope.
Also, due to the ongoing strike, project supervisors have halted engagement with students who are eager to work on and complete their project works on time.

The remaining activities that were supposed to take place as part of the second semester calendar have also been suspended, due to the indefiniteness of the strike.
Our students, as a matter of inevitability have had to deal with the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on their academics, and it is therefore unfair that students will be made to suffer the consequences of this strike epidemic, which we believe government is more than capable to resolve.
We are therefore calling on government as a matter of urgency to address the needs of our lecturers within the shortest possible time to ensure that the aims of higher education in the country are not hindered.
We commend all students for adhering to the various directives given by their respective institutions and for maintaining calm during these uncertain times.

Let us continue to take initiative towards our academics and prepare for all upcoming activities.
Signed
Okowayo Mensah
President.
