 NSS HOLDS ORIENTATION FOR NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL IN THE CAPE-COAST METROPOLIS

An orientation programme for national service personnel has taken place at Cape- Coast in the Central Region.

The objective of the one-day programme which was organized by the Cape-Coast Municipal Office of NSS was, among other things, to sensitize service personnel on work ethics and the importance of doing national service.

Speaking at the programme, the Head of Investment and Public Relations at the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly, Mr Richmond Yeboah, called on service personnel to adhere to laid-down rules and regulations, and submit to their superiors at the workplace to learn and tap from their rich experiences.

The Cape-Coast Municipal Manager of NSS, Mr Robert Baidoo, took the personnel through a brief history about the Scheme and its mandate emphasizing the reasons and advantages of fulfilling this mandatory constitutional requirement.

He took them through the general responsibilities of the personnel and sensitized them on the E-Zwich payment system.

He, however, warned that payment of service allowance would be based strictly on the submission of the duty forms and that any service personnel who failed to submit the forms after the deadline would have to forego his or her allowance for the said month or experience delays in payment.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Executive Director, the Director of Corporate Affairs of NSS, Mr Armstrong Esaah, urged service personnel to be hardworking, adding that tutelage during national service was a means to future employment opportunities.

He used the opportunity to amplify and commend the Hon. Mustapha Ussif led administration for the massive transformation the Scheme has undergone over the past three years such as the certificate delivery system, paperless registration and the NSS market place initiative which affords personnel to buy essential needs at an affordable price and on hire purchase.

“The Global Practice Initiative introduced by the Scheme allows hardworking to personnel to travel abroad to complete their national service with a foreign user agency. Selection for this lifetime opportunity is partly contingent upon the recommendation of user agencies so we implore you to work hard” he added.

Taking his turn to speak, the Cape Coast Metro Crime Officer DSP Kenneth kuntogli, cautioned personnel against indulging in any form of dealings that could result in negative implications and consequences.

He said work ethics could be violated by some superiors and urged service personnel not to compromise on their integrity, but to follow the instructions of their superiors with caution.

Other speakers at the event, attended by over 700 national service personnel, were the Central Regional Director of NSS, Rev. Kwame Adjei, and representatives from Narcotics Control Board, and the Red Cross Society.
